Wet Weather Storage Facility Expansion
Client
Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside
Location
Half Moon Bay, CA
This project included the installation of five concrete monolithic storage tanks (each is six feet tall, ten feet wide, and ninety feet long) to provide a combined storage volume of 200,000 gallons.
The sewage network captures both sewage from domestic sources and storm water runoff from streets and rooftops. All new components of the system are located underground at a maximum depth of approximately 12 feet. Construction for the storage expansion consisted of site preparation (topsoil removal and stockpiling), grading (excavation and backfilling), dewatering, installation of the storage tanks, and hydrostatic testing of the concrete boxes.
It also includes biological surveys for the California red-legged frog and Indigenous/Native American monitoring. Because the project site is located along a heavily travelled road by local residents and the San Mateo County Fire Department, a detailed traffic control plan was required.
