Turlock Component of the North Valley Regional Recycled Water Program (NVRRWP) is Underway!
Tanner Pacific, Inc. has teamed with West Yost Associates to provide CM and inspection services for the installation of a seven mile, 42-inch diameter pipeline located in Stanislaus County. This segment of pipeline is part of a larger initiative to transport tertiary-treated recycled water to the Del Puerto Water District (DPWD) and provide agricultural customers with a reliable source of irrigation water. Recycled water will also be delivered to South of Delta Wildlife Refuges, providing a critical incremental water system to protect the Pacific Flyway.
Environmental and Economic Benefit
DPWD, along with Partnering Agencies (City of Modesto and City of Turlock), developed the NVRRWP to address water supply shortages on the west side of California’s San Joaquin Valley. When completed, the pipeline will allow the cities of Modesto and Turlock to permanently remove their wastewater discharges from the San Joaquin River and put their recycled water to beneficial reuse. The program’s recycled water will provide a reliable water source for food production on thousands of acres of farmland, meeting at least one quarter of the annual supply requirement of the DPWD landowners. Additionally, the NVRRWP will reduce the unsustainable reliance on groundwater supplies and pumping from the Delta, help meet the State Water Board’s recycled water goals, and transport an essential supply of water to nearby wildlife refuges.
Project Progress
The Turlock Component of the NVRRWP connects the completed Modesto Component (located upstream) to the City of Modesto’s Jennings Road Wastewater Treatment Plant. Ranger Pipelines, Inc. recently constructed over 7,000 lineal feet of 42-inch cement mortar lined and coated steel pipeline, including a 280-foot section located under an existing wetland via microtunneling. Future work includes the installation of the remaining 5.8 miles of pipeline, a flow meter vault, flow control vault, and associated mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment. The project is expected to be completed by late 2019.
