Sailing Lake Access Road Improvements

Client:

City of Mountain View

Location:

Mountain View, CA

This project included the retrofit of Shoreline Lake Dam (located at the western end of Shoreline Regional Park) to meet dam safety standard by strengthening the embankment and mitigating seepage issues. A drained stability berm was constructed at the downstream toe of the existing Shoreline Lake Dam, and the existing dam crest will be raised by 3.5 feet.

Riprap was placed for slope protection. An aggregate base, followed by asphalt, is being installed on top of the heightened berm crest to maintain the existing 12-foot-wide access road and to accommodate future construction access to the Coast Casey Forebay north levee for the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project.

The site contains old land fill material and portions of the project site (including the staging area) include environmentally sensitive constraints requiring a biologist on site. Project required potholing, tree removal and clearing of site. Due to the presence of pickleweed (which is habitat for Salt Harvest Mouse), the pickleweed was removed by hand. Project is under jurisdiction of the California Safety of Dams (DSOD).
